Abstract

FTER teaching American literature three and a half years, there remain two strong dislikes I have: teaching a research paper and teaching through March and April (the snow and slush months in Minnesota). I think though that I've figured out how to get through both at the same time with a relatively self-directing two-month project which divides into three parts: research paper, class report, and progressive quiz. The written research paper includes instruction on collecting material, planning an outline, writing the paper, using correct footnote and bibliography form, etc. The class report is simply the written paper presented to the class by each student.
