Abstract

The possibility of controlling the operation of a wide high speed railway network by a centralised management system, allows to optimise its performance in terms of traffic control and regulation, logistic support management, services provided to the user and integration with the conventional railway and external services. In the specification and design of such a system, safety and reliability cover a fundamental role in that its integrity heavily impact the railway operation. This paper aims at discussing the reliability and safety implications taken into account by the SIGAV, the Italian High Speed Railway Integrated Management System, design group in the SIGAV preliminary design and specification.
