Abstract

The side thruster is a highly responsive means for the attitude control of missiles. The sidejet force is influenced by the interaction between the sidejet and the air stream flow. This sidejet aerodynamic interaction effect was analyzed from following two view points: (1) the pressure field in the vicinity of the sidejet, (2) the force acting on the missile. Technical data of the sidejet interaction effect were obtained by means of flight tests of the missiles that were equipped with 4 impulse side thrusters which were small-size rapid burning solid propellant rocket motors.
