Abstract

In the paper, the quinoxaline(QX) polymer donor material with 4-methoxythiophene as the side chain was designed and synthesized by side chain modification engineering and named as PBMOQX. It has good solubility in common organic solvents. In addition, a series of characterizations of the conjugated polymer were performed. There is a good spectral absorption at 300–700 nm with an electrochemical bandgap of 1.83 eV and an optical bandgap of 1.63 eV. With 0.5% of 1, 8-diiodooctane as an additive in a mixing ratio of PBMOQX: PC71BM = 1:1.5, the device achieves a power conversion efficiencies (PCE) of 6.94%. These studies indicate that the novel copolymer PBMOQX is a promising photovoltaic donor material for high efficiency polymer solar cells (PSCs).
