Abstract

This is a very well-edited compilation of papers presented at a conference held two years ago under the auspices of the National Foundation–March of Dimes and the Foundation for Research and Education in Sickle Cell Disease. It is an expensive book (8 cents per page), but it represents a sound investment for those interested in the fascinating and important field of hemoglobin structure and function. There are many excellent presentations. The clinical chapters by Heller, Pearson, and Diggs, the ultrastructural studies of White and Bertles, and the electrophoretic techniques so clearly outlined by Rose Schneider are very useful.
