Abstract

A SiC@TiO2/Pt catalytic membrane was fabricated to simultaneously remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nano particulate matter (nano-PM) from industrial fumes. The TiO2 transition layer and Pt nanoparticles were prepared by soaking SiC membrane into the corresponding precursor and then high temperature sintering, respectively. The TiO2 layer decorated on the pore surface of SiC was found to be essential for the effective loading of Pt nanoparticles and improving of catalytic activity. Meanwhile, this modification process has no effect on the gas permeation of the membrane. The mesitylene degradation and PM removal efficiency of SiC@TiO2/Pt catalytic membrane were evaluated. Complete conversion could be obtained for mesitylene with the inlet concentration of 300, 600, and 800 ppm at the residence time of 1.0 s, reaction temperature of 240, 251, and 263 °C, respectively. In the dust and mesitylene coexistence system, the catalytic membrane can completely degrade mesitylene and remove 99.98% of Al2O3...
