Abstract

ABSTRACT This article analyzes the scope of Siberian coal exports and indicates the countries (both eastern and western) that import this coal. It also sets out the history of the shipment of Siberian coals outside the region’s borders and reviews existing and potential directions for the coal exports of various Siberian basins and fields. In turn, it determines the volume of coal exports for each Siberian field and export direction, analyzes the transportation infrastructure used by Russia to ship coal, and studies the problems and limiting factors affecting the export of coal from Siberia. These problems and factors are connected, first and foremost, with railroads and cargo ports. Furthermore, the article studies the opportunity for overcoming these factors by reconstructing old railroad branches, constructing new railroad branches, using alternative means of shipping coal products, and increasing processing depth. Finally, it briefly presents the prospects for Siberian coal exports.
