Abstract
Clinical Image: A 76 year old african american female presented with left submandibular swelling that had been sharply increasing in size for 4 days. The patient complained of pain with swallowing. The physical examination was remarkable except for large swelling of the left side of the neck and a left sublingual hard nodule. The neck mass was firm, indurated, non-mobile, and tender. Computed tomography revealed calcifications in the left sublingual area and the swelling to be local tissue edema. A diagnosis of Sialolithiasis was made. Given the patient’s presentation and history. Sour lemon drops, warm compresses, and massage of the neck mass caused exudation of multiple different size stones from whartons duct. Less than 2% of stones arise from the sublingual gland.
