Abstract

The article discusses the five novels of contemporary Polish writer Marcin Szczygielski about a young witch – Maia. The figure of a witch, which has become an emblem of contemporary feminist movements, also appears in the works of fantasy literature, in which they function as emanations of the power of femininity. The young heroine of Szczygielski’s novel also functions on such a level. Building strong female characters in novels for girls is a new trend in this type of literature – and Szczygielski’s works about the adventures of a young witch are the best representation of this.
