Abstract

Presents a new criterion for shunt reactor location selection. This criterion is based directly upon the total reactive power absorbed by the rotating units. The impact of both the inductive VAr compensation location and magnitude upon the transient stability performance of a recent fast developing power system is given. Moreover, the coordination among these SVC reactors has been investigated. Comparison with previously published work is given and the results show the superiority of the newly developed criterion.
