Abstract

Nonlinear loads; such as power converters, fluorescent lamps and electrical drives, inject harmonic currents to the grid. This paper presents the active filtering of the harmonic distortion generated by the compact fluorescent lamps (CFL). The Instantaneous active and reactive power theory, called p-q theory, is used to design the active power filter controller. The harmonic distortion and the active filter control scheme have been verified by simulation and experiment under different load conditions. Also, the tuning of the active power filter is performed to improve the electrical power quality.
