Abstract

The paper presents experimental results of producing refractory electrically conductive TiC + xC composites by SHS pressing method. The conditions for obtaining composites with residual porosity of about 20% were established. The effect of the composition of the reaction mixture on phase content, microstructure, compressive and bending strength, as well as electrical resistivity of SHS composites was explored. It was shown that the values of compressive and bending strength of TiC + xC composites constitute 80 – 100 and 100 – 150 MPa, respectively, which is 3 to 5 times higher compared to the strength of fine-grained graphite. The electrical resistivity of the composites corresponds to that of fine-grained graphite (16 – 18 μOhm·m).
