Abstract

With respect to rheological work on brown coal slurries, it is important to know the volumetric concentration accurately. This requires the determination of volume changes that occur on coal pretreatment and liquid medium addition. It is pointed out that for brown coal the value of the true density to be used should be determined by liquid pycnometry in the relevant fluid, and not by helium on the dried coal.
