Abstract

There are an increasing number of spinal injections being performed in most spinal units. In these austere times with rationing of health care it is crucial that there is evidence for the cost effectiveness of any procedure as there is clinical prioritisation of procedures by various health authorities. Lumbar nerve root blocks are established procedures for persistent radicular leg pain. The outcome after 2 years for patients treated operatively versus non-operative for disc herniation is similar as per the SPORT trial.
