Abstract
Summary A precis is given of the history of national forestry planning in Australia pointing out that considerations made to date have not involved planning for export markets. Because of substantial reductions in the various estimates of Australia's future consumption of forest products, forestry planners are being compelled to consider whether Australia should curtail plantation establishment activities or grow for export. Reasons are advanced for our planners to take an optimistic view of our ability to find export markets in the decades ahead.
