Abstract

At a time when much of the news is bad, an increase in the price of paper may seem a relatively minor item, but it creates problems for those who produce a journal using high quality paper. The cost of the paper on which the British Journal of Radiology is printed has been increased by 50 per cent for 1974, and this in turn will increase the cost of producing the Journal by 10 per cent. Further rises are anticipated in the future. This has led the Editorial and Publications Committees to reconsider their policy in accepting material for publication. It so happened that shortly before news of these increases was received the Committees had recommended that eight extra pages be added to the Journal in order to increase the number of papers published. This increase in size will now have to be abandoned.
