Abstract

Short-circuit calculation is very important not only for traditional power grid but also for smart grid. The impact of dynamic load characteristics on short circuit current has long been underestimated or overlooked with very little considerations in power system analysis packages which are not favorable especially for strong smart grid. The key points of short-circuit calculation considering dynamic load characteristics in short-circuit portion of PSS/E were studied with an approach developed. The results from the approach proposed in this paper were compared with the ones from both dynamic simulation of PSS/E and short-circuit portion of BPA. Calculation results show that the proposed approach by adept use of short-circuit current calculation portion of PSS/E is feasible to calculate the short-circuit dynamic load feeding current.
