Abstract
Many geophysicists have conceded that mining exploration geophysics as we knew it is dead and the mining industry in the US itself is dying. Gloom and doom pervades the industry. While there is no doubt that the base metal industry is in dire straits, precious metal exploration has maintained a relatively strong position and is probably increasing. However, because of relatively small budgets and new exploration approaches, there is not at present a large market for geophysical technology and geophysicists.
