Abstract

Griseofulvin therapy of finger onychomycosis is costly and time-consuming if the drug must be given until the nail has grown out. Accordingly, we have experimented with shorter methods of therapy. Method The patients, all of whom had Trichophyton rubrum infections, were distributed in six treatment groups: Three grams of griseofulvin daily for 15 days. One gram of griseofulvin daily for 30 days. One gram of griseofulvin daily for 60 days. Two grams of griseofulvin daily for 30 days. One gram of griseofulvin daily for 7 days, and then one gram every third day, thereafter, for 90 days. One gram of griseofulvin daily for 7 days, and then one gram every second day, thereafter, for 90 days. The patients ranged in age from 11 to 50 years, 80% being in the second and third decades.
