Abstract

Hypothermic asanguineous perfusion of porcine livers using cryo-precipitated plasma was consistently effective up to 10 hours. When the period of preservation was extended to 24 hours, most of the animals died within 24 hours because of a bleeding diathesis, probably due to hepatic endothelial cell damage, secondary to inadequate regional hepatic perfusion.
