Abstract

Background: Emergency colorectal surgery is associated with worse outcome than elective. There is evidence that the results colorectal resections are more favourable in the hands of specialist colorectal surgeons, however; it is not clear if this applies specifically to emergency colorectal resections. The aim of this study was to assess whether emergency colorectal resections done by colorectal specialists have lower mortality and morbidity compared with non-colorectal specialists.
