Abstract

The short-term planning of a hydrothermal power production system is considered in this paper. A new method for the short term hydrothermal planning is presented. The problem is decomposed to hydro and thermal subproblems. The coordination method is not based on the marginal price but the unit commitment (UC) of the thermal subproblem is coordinated by a coordination function based on the behaviour of the hydro subsystems. The results show the behaviour of the marginal price in different production situations. Also thermal production costs are influenced by the degree of the load following property in the hydro production.
