Abstract

The article discusses the life and work of Dutch artist Rijckaert Aertsz, including what works by the artist remain extant. Aertsz's influence on other artists such as Dutch artist Frans Floris de Vriendt is then addressed, particularly in terms of subject matter. Specific works thought to be influenced in this manner are then described and their iconography addressed. The subject matter especially addressed is the depiction of artists in art. The biography of Aertsz by Flemish artist Karel van Mander is referenced throughout.
