Abstract
In the present work, amorphous Ni 50Ta 50 samples with a high crystallization temperature of 985 K were investigated. To evaluate the three partial structure factors, an X-ray diffraction experiment with Ni 50Ta 50 and two neutron diffraction experiments with Ni 50Ta 50 and with Co 10Ni 40Ta 50, respectively, were performed. The nearest neighbour distance is d = 2.82 A ̊ for NiNi, d = 2.91 A ̊ for TaTa, and d = 2.44 A ̊ for NiTa. The coordination numbers are N NiNi = 4.9, N TaTa = 8.2 and N NiTa = 6.0. The chemical short-range order and the chemical bounding in a-Ni 50Ta 50 are reported.
