Abstract

A short-length polarization beam splitter is designed. It is based on a simple structure dual-core photonic crystal fiber (DC-PCF), and possesses short-length. We research the effects of DC-PCF structure parameters on performances of the splitter by finite element method (FEM). The results show that the extinction ratio of the 249μm-long splitter can reach −50.7dB at the communication wavelength of 1.55μm. Furthermore, the extinction ratio of the 506μm-long splitter can reach −61.6dB at the communication wavelength of 1.31μm. The bandwidths of extinction ratio better than −20dB are about 17nm and 12nm at wavelength of 1.55μm and 1.31μm, respectively.
