Abstract

The Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of New Mexico is conducting basic physics research on charged particle beam driven High Power Microwave (HPM) sources, high brightness Bremsstrahlung sources and pulsed power drivers. In addition to the High Energy Long Pulse Marx bank a High-Power water transmission line was developed for delivering energy to the low impedance MILO load. The transmission line was designed to operate in a confined space, with long high-power pulses exceeding 500ns, and to match the impedance of the driving Marx bank to the low impedance load with low losses. The following paper details the electrical and mechanical design decisions made as well as numerical SPICE and electrodynamic models validating these decisions. The paper also presents initial characterization of the output at various voltages and various loads of different impedances.
