Abstract

The Museum's name is linked with that of one of the most outstanding Genovese families, the Doria. Giacomo Doria (Figure 1), who founded the Museum, was born in La Spezia on 1 November 1840 and died in Borzoli (Genoa) on 19 September 1913; he was a passionate naturalist who, without stinting energy and personal wealth, devoted himself to the aim of creating and furthering this new centre of studies, which he directed for more than forty years(Capra, 1968 a;De Magistris, 1917;Gestro, 1921 b;Parona, 1914).
