Abstract

We derive an operator expansion of the scalar, the spinor and the vector propagators in the presence of an arbitrary long range background field, using the Schwinger-DeWitt ‘proper time’ formalism. This has the advantage of keeping the expansion gauge covariant at all stages. These results may be used to calculate the leading background effects in the one-loop correlation functions.
