Abstract

Short circuit current characteristics of wind generators have been studied in this paper. Two types of wind generators have been considered. One is the induction generator; the other is the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). As to DFIG, there is always a crowbar to protect the power electronic converter at the rotor side. So the short circuit current of DFIG has been analyzed with consideration of the effect of the crowbar. In this paper, short circuit current of induction generator is calculated as well as its decaying characteristic. Simulation results have shown its correctness. As to DFIG, two situations are considered. For the situation that crowbar is triggered, short circuit current is deduced from that of induction generator and its decaying characteristic is proved through simulation. And short circuit current of DFIG when crowbar is not triggered has also been analyzed.
