Abstract

The interaction of lithotripter shock wave (LSW) with laser‐generated single vapor bubbles in water is investigated experimentally using high‐speed photography and pressure measurement via a fiber optic probe hydrophone. An optimal bubble size can be determined during both the expansion and collapse phase of the bubble oscillation that leads to the maximum pressure amplification, which is produced when the collapse time matches the compressive pulse duration of the LSW.
