Abstract

Temporal development of shockwaves generated from streamers discharges in water was observed by means of time resolved imaging based on laser Schlieren method. Pressure of shock wave was calculated by Hugoniot's equation, which utilizes the relation between the shock pressure and its propagation velocity. The streamer discharges were generated by pulsed positive voltages applied to a needle electrode. The measurements indicate that the pressure exceeding 1 GPa takes place only near the streamer discharges. Stronger shockwave was generated in more conductive water.
