Abstract
The induction-period kinetics of the hydrogen-oxygen reaction has been investigated behind shock waves, using an ultraviolet and absorption technique to momtor the growth of the OH concentration. Rate coefficient data were obtained for the chain branching reactions H + O2→k2 + OH and O + H2→k3 + H in the temperature range 1200–1800°K. There are given in Archenoza form by k2 = 9.9 × 1010exp−15020RT and k3 = 7.5 × 1010exp−11100RT liter mole−1 sec−1 The expression for kt 18 in good agreement with the high and low-temperature values reported in the literature. The expression for k4 yields values which are higher than those found in most of the literature but are in good agreement with some of the more recent data.
