Abstract
Dr Hardaway is a suitable choice to organize a treatise on circulatory shock. The editor is a distinguished senior investigator and clinician who has made many contributions to this field. He was previously the commanding officer at the William Beaumont General Hospital and presently serves as professor of surgery at Texas Tech University School of Medicine. For the present project Dr Hardaway has assembled a multidisciplinary group of contributors who might constitute a Who's Who of researchers and clinicians involved in shock. This is appropriate, as Hardaway points out that the understanding and treatment of shock involve practically every type of physician and that the clinical condition is nearly universal as a prelude to death. It is fitting, therefore, that the goal of the book is to assemble a summary of the combined knowledge of shock that includes clinical and experimental research and to present this information with the hope
