Abstract

The one‐dimensional interaction expected when a shock crosses a deflagration is solved. The analysis is complicated by energy source terms which can occur in the refracted shock. The Mach number of the refracted shock is very dependent upon the actual energy absorption mechanism and sample solutions for absorption which is like radiative and chemical heat release are discussed.
