Abstract

For the first time solar and lunar IR absorption measurements have been performed by means of an FT-IR spectrometer on a lengthy ship cruise. These measurements were performed in May and June 1994 on board the German research vessel Polarstern between Cape Town (33°S) and Bremerhaven (53°N). Spectral analysis of the obtained spectra allowed retrieval of the total zenith columns of a number of trace gases in the atmosphere and study of the latitudinal dependence of the column densities of these trace gases.
