Abstract

This paper describes a methodology to implement and operate an onboard expert system to be applied on real time ship stability computation. The system comprises a data acquisition system associated to a software based tool on a PC computer. Such instruments measure roll motions and process the acquired data to give information on actual ship stability, such as an alarm when the actual stability deviation exceed a predetermined limit value: Ship stability is computed by means of an FFT algorithm associated to further filtering based in the frequency domain analysis of ship motions associated to sea state parameters.
