Abstract

International maritime organization has introduced a series of regulations in the last decade for carbon emission reduction. These decarbonization regulations are increasingly tightened with time, and stricter new regulations will be introduced in the future. Accordingly, ship design has to adapt to the new requirements with considerations for changing decarbonization regulations. This paper proposes a ship design optimization framework based on decarbonization regulations probabilistic compliance, aiming to improve vessel’s profit in shipping operation by optimizing main design parameters of the ship. And decarbonization regulations compliance of a specific set of feasible design solutions is given. The objective of this study is introducing decarbonization regulations probabilistic compliance into ship design optimization for improving profitability and compliance in future shipping operation. A case of a container ship is studied for illustration.
