Abstract
The enclosure is usually employed to protect the electronic devices or system against electromagnetic pulse (EMP). The sweeping method is recommended by technical standards to measure the shielding effectiveness (SE). In the frequency range concerned by most research in high-altitude electromagnetic pulse(HEMP), the sweeping method is not a fast way to acquire system shielding performance. Considering the convenience and efficiency, it is attractive if the SE can be assessed at the open site along with the electronics effect tests. To address feasibility of this means, responses in an enclosure excited by EMP pulses with different rise time are simulated by numerical method. The spectrum ratio is obtained by sweeping method and FFT of transient waveform respectively. It can be drawn that the assessment accuracy of time domain method is constrained by the bandwidth and sensibility of the sensor inside the enclosure.
