Abstract

The shell effects on the emission of light particles in fission processes are explored in the framework of the Smoluchowski equation. Two doubly magic nuclei, 132Sn and 208Pb, are chosen as representatives to demonstrate the shell effects. Calculations show that the shell has a significant effect on the neutron emission for the two nuclei and that this shell effect on pre-scission neutron multiplicity gradually fades out with increasing excitation energy. In addition, a dependence of shell effects in neutron emission on angular momentum has been found.
