Sheershak: an Automatic Title Generation Tool for Hindi Short Stories

Abstract

This paper describes a novel approach to generate the title for Hindi stories, article or passage automatically. We have implemented a system which is capable enough to suggest appropriate titles that are relevant to the story. The title of the paragraph provides the central theme of the story. Our system will generate title with various approaches like noun and adjective combination, keywords associative with proverbs, combination of nouns or directly the proverb itself. In our paper, we have described complete algorithm for generation of title for various stories in Hindi. The performance of some approaches depends on the size of database completely. The results generated by the system are satisfactory according to various hindi tutors and hindi language students. According to testing of the system of the titles are accurate and relevant. We have tested our approach on randomly selected 10 Hindi short stories from internet and system has generated meaningful titles for them which are either same as the original titles or give the similar sense to them. Our system can be used an application tool in various institutes for Hindi tutors, for novel or story writers etc. Our system can also be helpful to society in increasing the awareness of Hindi language among youth and may also introduce Hindi language in computer system.
