Abstract

This paper discusses common misconceptions about English learners that often come up with ESOL teachers. The ESOL teacher's role as advocate for English learners continues to evolve. It is therefore imperative that ESOL teachers are empowered with facts that dispell misconceptions that come up in casual conversations in the hall or at the lunch table with colleagues. Knowing how to counter these common misconceptions is an aspect of advocacy that should not be taken for granted.
