Abstract

It is well established that patients (pts) with chronic heart failure often suffer from severe peripheral muscular weakness resulting in difficulties performing daily life tasks. Reduced oxygen delivery, lowered lactate turnover and -mitochondrial capacity are thought be responsible for a diminished contractility of peripheral muscles in heart failure pts. To date, only invasive muscle biopsies are suitable to diagnose this condition.
