Abstract

This paper discusses the shear transfer behavior at the interface between circular tubed column and steel beam. Five beam-column connection specimens with crossing diaphragm were tested under monotonic loads, considering the key parameters of joint tube thickness, embedded diaphragm width, and crossing diaphragm thickness. Based on the experimental results, typical failure modes and load-displacement curves were obtained and discussed in details. A simplified finite element model was developed and validated with the experimental results. Parametric studies on the shear transfer capacity were carried out and analyzed. Lastly, practical formulas for estimating the shear transfer capacity are suggested.
