Abstract

In order to determine whether Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) is safe and effective for use in precast prestressed beams, an experimental and theoretical research program was carried out in the construction department of the Technical University of Catalunya (UPC). The purpose of this paper is to describe the shear behaviour of Full-Scale Prestressed I-Beams made with High Strength Self Compacting Concrete (SCC), with compressive strength of around 90 MPa. The influence of the following variables was studied: the concrete type (Conventional Vibrated Concrete CVC or SCC), the existence of shear reinforcement, the amount of horizontal web reinforcement and the level of prestress.
