Abstract

Recently, beam-CFST column connections with an eccentricity between beam depth have been used in engineering practices to fulfill the design requirements of high-rise and large-span space structures. According to the comparison between the numerical data with the current design code, AIJ (1987), and Eurocode (2005), this paper presents a design method to evaluate the shear performance of connection panel zone with an eccentricity between beam depths. The proposed design methods directly superimpose the contribution of the infilled concrete and the outer steel tubular, which take the effect of beam-depth ratio (h2/h1), size effect (D), aspect ratio (H/D), width-to-thickness ratio (D/t), and axial-force ratio (n) into consideration. The design methods showed high accuracy and could be applied to assess the shear performance for connections with an eccentricity between beam depths.
