Abstract

Symbolic hierarchical automated reliability and performance evaluator (SHARPE) is a hierarchical modeling tool for analyzing a class of performance, reliability/availability, and combined performance/reliability/availability models. It provides a specification language and solution methods for the model types such as series-parallel reliability block diagrams, fault trees, reliability graphs, acyclic Markov chains, and cyclic Markov chains with absorbing states. The Markov models have reward rates associated with the states of the Markov chains allowing the specification and solution of “Markov reward models.” The output measures obtained from the models are either steady-state or transient depending on the model type. Typical output measures include the cumulative distribution functions including mean and variance for most of the model types.
