Abstract

I think that whenever possible, it is important for students to see the immediate applicati on of newly learned concepts and at the same time to be reminded of the oftenforgotten concepts. I have been able to implement both these teaching strategies when developing the midpoint formula. In most textbooks, the midpoint formula is developed after the distance formula through the use of similar triangles. But because of its presentation immediately after the distance formula. I believe that the midpoint formula should be developed by using the distance formula and the geometric theorem that states that the midpoint of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equidistant
