Abstract

This paper reviews current developments in Object-Oriented Programming and data exchange standards in relation to the use of computer software in building design. The problems of creating complete product models for building are considered and an alternative strategy based on the concept of sharing Local Product Models between related applications is proposed. Some criteria for selection of Local Product Models and determining their contents are given and conclusions are drawn about future developments.
