Abstract

The aim of this phenomenological study is to explore the lived experiences of police officers regarding their views on the contemporary issues in the police service and their retirement woes. In order to know the problems that retired police officers usually have encountered, their perspectives on the current issues in the police service and their past experiences in the police service, a semi-structured interview checklist was used in the collection of data; tape-recorded interviews were used to collect data after informed consent had been obtained from the six retired police officers who were currently residing in Angeles City, Pampanga. Respondents were recruited voluntarily and were asked in-depth questions where five key themes emerged: (1) satisfaction after retirement; (2) negation of current negative issues in the police service; (3) affliction with the problems in the police service; (4) financial stability and; (5) health problems. The data gathered showed that the retirement package of the police is commendable. Further studies on experiences of police officers who retired by reason of permanent disability should be examined.
