Abstract

Abstract Plato’S dialogue Meno opens with a question from Meno about whether virtue can be taught. Socrates replies that, far from knowing whether or not virtue can be taught, he doesn’t even know what virtue is (71a). There follows this characteristic avowal of what is called ‘Socratic ignorance’:
